Viberg x 4Horsemen Oxford Shoe

Canadian boot masters Viberg have been creating iconic footwear since 1931. This time, they have teamed up with fellow Canadians 4Horseman to create a rework of the classic oxford shoe. They have used a subtle brogue trim and two tone upper to genius effect, by the looks of things they have also used a decent Vibram sole to boot.

Stone Island’s Carlo Rivetti

The Rig-Out team at Oi Polloi, have visited and interviewed Carlo Rivetti from Stone Island in Italy. Below are a few excerpts from the interview. They gave a small insight into one of my favorite brands, plus the factory floor photos have some great aesthetics.

“From a certain point of view we (Stone Island) are a medium sized company. Everybody thinks we are much much bigger, I hope we do grow, we are growing. But size is not everything. I’m not interested in becoming the company that is doing 1.5billion turnover. I don’t want to compromise, I cannot compromise as this is my life. I will continue this way. We are successful and truly independent.”

“We are more interested in product design than say, ‘fashion design’. Each piece can stand alone. Every piece has a reason, we never make something simply out of beauty. It has to have a function. It is in the DNA. It is product design, we look at sport, movement, purpose.”

“The type of consumer who buys Stone Island are normal ‘real’ men. For them it is basic. Women, sport, cars. Stone Island is a brand for real men. It’s natural. The approach is natural. Let Gucci do the fashion, its not my cup of coffee but it’s perfect for them. I’ll be honest, I do not want to dress women.”

Visvim Pollock Giza Crew

Visvim spring/summer of this year is now available from Swedish shop Tres Bien. I picked out this crew neck jumper from their collection as i think it’s their freshest piece, other clothing in the range is also superb, but i think that their footwear is a little over-styled. My favorite part is defiantly the detail of the elk leather backpack tag on the chest, which i haven’t seen before, but it’s great. The crew is also made from the finest long Egyptian Giza cotton, is slim fitting and made in Japan.

RRL Spring/Summer 11

The latest RRL has now been released with only two retailers that i know of who stock it, Liberty and End Clothing. Liberty has recently just opened an RRL shop in their London store, some beautiful garments, but a slight shame that they are now manufactured in Hong Kong, which is surprising as this is supposed to be the quintessential American heritage brand. However their are some really nice pieces in this spring/summer collection.

I recently purchased an RRL knitted jumper that was made in Hong Kong, but was still really pleased with the fit and quality. The photos I have shown are from end clothing, for which i must praise the detail, check the shop out here, however you can’t buy any RRL products online, but you can call them to make an order.

RRL’s collections still incorporates that all American theme into their garments, with hand stitched selvedge denim, military-grade chinos and beautiful leather work.

Wings + Horns Spring/Summer 11

A relatively new company, Wings + Horns was established in Vancouver in 2004. Like many of of my favorite brands, their focus is based on the quality of their craftsmanship, rather than focusing on quick turn-over trends. Another basis that they develop their clothing on; is comfort.

Collections are designed with a Canadian climate in mind; cold winters call for quilted outerwear, thick fleece knits and lots of layers, while short mild summers allow for lighter fabrics like chambray denim and linen.

Superdenim and Coggles are both stocking the Wings + Horns s/s collection.
